Open Chat... All Day, Every Day! Express Your Views, Debate, and Challenge the Views of Others!

In order to keep up with the nature of free, spirited debate, I wanted to place the chat feature at the top of the homepage. This ensures people can come here and share their views on anything they wish and not have it be related to any specific discussion. Here, people can share ideas, links, and views "unmoderated" and an their own pace. To me, this makes The Elephant in the Room blog truly a place for debate.

Fact Checking a Fact Check: Did CNN Rush to Judgement?

So what did you think of Paul Ryan's speech last night? I thought he did a great job. He said what was needed: that the economy is not recovering quickly enough, that 23 million Americans are unemployed or underemployed, that one in six Americans now live in poverty, and yes, logically, we need a change in leadership. These are facts, and there really is no way around them. Of course, without hesitation, the liberal media was quick to jump on Ryan's speech, searching for any little tidbit of information they could to show he was a "liar" and "short on facts." But it didn't start with the media. Last night, Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter, who falsely (by a matter of 4x1) claimed "Obama has created more jobs than Ronald Reagan" tweeted the following during Ryan's speech:

Mitt Romney has a Women Problem? What About Obama's Men Problem?

We've heard it over and over and over again: "Women voters favor Barack Obama." Or "Mitt Romney has a problem with women voters." Or the big one: "Gender gap!"

A "problem?" A "gap?" Nice word choices. Of course, this is heavily broadcast in the liberal media. Any time they can put out a headline that lines up "problem" and "Romney," they will happily jump on the chance. This headingling of a gender gap is the "effect" of the media-induced "war on women". Yes, the fake war on women is the "cause," so to speak.

Friday Lie-Day!!!

Happy Friday everyone!

So why does the title of this post say "Friday Lie-Day?" Well, surprisingly, Anderson Cooper is at it again... he is calling out DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz for her blatantly dishonest claim about Mitt Romney's stance on abortion and her intentional misquoting of the LA Times. I'm not big on "gotcha" politics, and I prefer deep economic analysis, but hey, it's Friday, viewership is typically lower, and sometimes we can have a little fun. I mean, heck... when the media, late night talk show hosts, and those of the like continually ridicule the GOP (sometimes legitimately, mostly not, and mostly creating fake "gaffes" and twists), I think we on the right can play by the same rules. This is not my video; it's from The Right Scoop, and it shows Anderson Cooper standing up for truth. Check it out: http://www.therightscoop.com/brutal-anderson-cooper-obliterates-dnc-chair-over-her-lies-about-romneys-stance-on-abortion/

Obama Continues to Lie about Taxes

As I have previously written, it seems that President Obama is taking the "throw it at the wall and see what sticks" approach to his campaign ads. This means that he is making claims, regardless of how false they are, while hoping they get enough viewership without the average American even checking on the validity of these claims for themselves. If repeated often enough, the electorate will simply believe these claims, without question, ultimately voting for a president based on lies and misinformation. For additional examples, see this post: http://loudmouthelephant.blogspot.com/2012/06/fill-in-blank-obama-campaign-is-based.html. In fact, I highlighted the "science" behind the President's campaign strategy here: http://loudmouthelephant.blogspot.com/2012/06/obama-campaign-deceit-machine-rolls-on.html

In Obama's newest campaign ad, he goes right after Mitt Romney and his tax rate. First,... why??? What in the world does this have to do with anything? Does Obama really think the American people are that stupid? Let's get some things straight:

A Quick Thought About the CBO's $1.1 Trillion Budget Deficit Prediction

Yes, you read the headline correctly. The Congressional Budget Office has predicted that the final budget deficit, the amount by which the government spends more than it takes in for a year, will close the 2012 fiscal year at about $1.1 trillion (see it here: http://www.cbo.gov/publication/43539). The government will have spent $3.8 trillion while taking in revenues of $2.7 trillion. And yes, I must through this out there, taxing the rich more will not change the $1.1 trillion deficit. See those numbers here: http://loudmouthelephant.blogspot.com/2012/03/tax-rich-obama-class-warfarecampaign.html

This post isn't scientific; it's just some thoughts about these numbers. Think about this:

A Well-Written Case Against the Re-election of Barack Obama

As a writer and a blogger, I stand for one thing: truth. Sadly, it seems that truth is hard to come by nowadays. But taking a deeper look at the concept of truth leads me to ask, "what does truth mean?" To me, truth means substance. It means real, cited, repeatable data. It means, and this is the biggest driver of why I write, when you have an opinion, you back it with fact. You back it with... truth.

Now, of course, truth begets interpretation. What do I mean? Referencing my introduction paragraph, it means that I'm growing very tired of hollow opinions. I'm tired of empty rhetoric such as, "Bush was a bad president" or "Obama hates America" (to highlight how, yes, this does occur on both sides). Anyone can have an opinion, and debating what someone feels is useless, but opinions that are backed with facts, examples, citations, studies, etc. go much further than those that lack these opinion-promoting artifacts.

The Elephant in the Room Goes on Vacation

Good morning to all those in the Blogosphere. I am writing a quick post to let everyone know that I will be going on vacation to Europe until August 17th.

Many of you will probably say, "who cares." A few might say, "good riddance."  :-) But I just wanted to inform those that stop by daily that I most likely won't be updating The Elephant in the Room while I'm out. I'll try, but it might be difficult.

I will be back on The 405 Live Radio show on Saturday, August 18th at 10:00am EST. As always, the show is hosted by @johng405. If you'd like to listen, please do so at the following link:

I will miss writing posts and debating with everyone out there. Please know that I'm looking forward to returning and getting back to work on the blog. I will have access to email, so if anyone comments, I can do my best to approve them quickly so they go live ASAP. Who knows, maybe this post will be a long comment board :-)

Thank you all for your support. It has been an amazing year, and I look forward to continuing the discussion, analysis, and civil debate when I get back. Go forth, and be Loudmouth Elephants.
