Open Chat... All Day, Every Day! Express Your Views, Debate, and Challenge the Views of Others!

In order to keep up with the nature of free, spirited debate, I wanted to place the chat feature at the top of the homepage. This ensures people can come here and share their views on anything they wish and not have it be related to any specific discussion. Here, people can share ideas, links, and views "unmoderated" and an their own pace. To me, this makes The Elephant in the Room blog truly a place for debate.

  1. The California story is a bit amusing to me. I hope that this isn't the same fiasco that prop 8 was. For review, prop 8 was the California voters voting to ban same sex marriage. Since this was not the desired or expected outcome it became a court battle.

Let's hope that the voters of California vote the "right way" this time so there are no more court battles.

Basically, if the voters of CA vote to get rid of the death penalty all will be well and they will write stories about how great democracy is. IF the voters of CA decide to keep the death penalty look for lawsuits and no mention of democracy.

  2. 32Slim you are 100000% right. Being for gay marriage or not is irrelevant. The state of California decided to put it up for the PEOPLE to decide. When the people DID decide, since it didn't work out how the losers wanted, they didn't accept it and they tried to override it. That's pretty disgusting. It has nothing to do with gay marriage. It has to do with respecting democracy. If people agree to meet and settle things in a certain way, that's how you settle it. You can't have other moves in your back pocket. Why have the vote if you weren't going to accept its results. For the death penalty issue, it's the same thing. Settle it by a vote. If the voters keep it, keep it. If they don't, don't. Let the voting power and democracy win.
