In order to keep up with the nature of free, spirited debate, I wanted to place the chat feature at the top of the homepage. This ensures people can come here and share their views on anything they wish and not have it be related to any specific discussion. Here, people can share ideas, links, and views "unmoderated" and an their own pace. To me, this makes The Elephant in the Room blog truly a place for debate.

The Illinois Republican Primary - March 20th, 2012

The GOP primary train makes a stop in the Land of Lincoln.

This open forum post is designated to the Illinois republican primary.

With Mitt Romney's big win in Puerto Rico, and his expanding delegate lead, each remaining primary is important... but for whom? With the number of remaining primary states shrinking, is it more important for Mitt to continue to capture delegates before the GOP convention, or is it more important for Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul to take each and every final delegate away from the front runner? Who has the shorter leash?

Other Key Questions:

- Who do you think will win the Illinois primary?
- Will anyone drop out after this primary?
- Will the winner of the Illinois primary win the GOP nomination? Rick Santorum guarantees that if he wins in Illinois he will win the nomination: http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/19/politics/campaign-wrap/index.html - What will happen?
- Can you predict who finishes where (percentages)?

Share your thoughts, predictions, opinions, analysis, etc. below. Thank you.

  1. I'm going to go out on a limb here; I think Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich will be neck in neck in a barn burner battling for dead last. I know Ron Paul seems to have a firm grasp on last place but Gingrich could take it away from him in Illinois. Since Paul has the experience in securing last place finishes I think he once again brings up the rear with about 9%, Gingrich with about 10%.

    Romney wins 45-35.

    1. Wow! You were definitely really close. Just 2 off on Romney, dead on on Santorum, and really, really close on the other two.

    2. Good morning LME. Yeah I got pretty darn close. I knew Paul and Gingrich were going to be battling for last. I knew Gingrich had a chance to beat Paul out for the un-coveted last place. He came from ahead (of Paul, in the polls) to win the "Race to the bottom". I gave them too much credit, they only got a combined 17% not 19%.

  2. I agree with you about who finishes where, but I think the percents will be different.

    Mitt Romney wins with 38%
    Rick Santorum gets 36%
    Newt will get 17%
    Ron Paul gets 7%
    Others get 2%

I really do think the bottom drops out and It will be Mitt vs Santorum from here on out. I wish Santorum would just quit though. He is showing that porn and vaginas are more important than jobs

    1. I live in Illinois and have been "bombarded" with negative adds sooooooooo much that it just make me want to vomit. Then you get the phone calls with pre recorded adds, enough already. If I want to know what a persons past is that is running for public office, I will look it up, it is up to the voters to do their research. Tell me what you are going to do when/if you get elected and if your past does not reflect what you say you are going to do, be damned on you.

      Mitt will win with 42%
Rick will have about 35 to 38%
      Newt will be about 15%
      Ron with less that 10%

From what I can see watch out for the THIRD party game to raise it's ugly head soon.
