Open Chat... All Day, Every Day! Express Your Views, Debate, and Challenge the Views of Others!

In order to keep up with the nature of free, spirited debate, I wanted to place the chat feature at the top of the homepage. This ensures people can come here and share their views on anything they wish and not have it be related to any specific discussion. Here, people can share ideas, links, and views "unmoderated" and an their own pace. To me, this makes The Elephant in the Room blog truly a place for debate.

Florida GOP Debates - January 23rd and January 26th 2012

Two debates, one on Monday at 9pm EST on NBC, one on Thursday at 8pm on CNN. Instead of having two open forums, we are putting up one open form for both debates. Typical stuff here:

- Who won the debate on January 23rd? Who won the debate on January 26th?
- What do you feel is the most important topic?
- Biggest gaffe? Biggest "gotcha" moment?
- How will these debates affect the Florida electorate?
- Does anyone drop out before the primary?

What grades would you give the candidates?

Of course, any comment, question, debate is welcome. Thank you.

  1. I think Newt builds on the successes of SC and blows everyone away in FL.

  2. Romney and Newt annihilate each other like the pompous superpowers they are, Paul rambles like usual and the one, true conservative candidate Rick Santorum prevails and wins Florida.

  3. In an independent. I voted for Obama in 08. I will NOT do it this time. He showed what happens when you go too far one way. We need a moderate. Romney has the best experience being in the executive branch and dealing across the isle to the legislative. The down side: he isn't hanging in these debates. I think he will turn it around and win in Florida.

    1. Couldn't Agree more - unlike u I did NOT vote for OBAMA but I never thought he'd gstep far to the left - he needs to be ousted & I think Romney is the man who can do it - but whoever it is vs Obama will get my California vote
I love this country - I don't want live in a socialist country & people WAKE UP - that's where we are going with OBISMAL -

  5. I am interested to see which, if any, of the candidates is seen with Gov. Scott Walker (that's a wider campaign issue though).

I see Gingrich continuing to build steam through this debate. I expect to hear alot more from Romney about Gingrich's time with Freddie. To me, the most important topic is how to get this economy working again, how we reduce our world military forces (without forgoing military superiority), and how we can get to a point of freedom where people are can be themselves and others don't feel the need to legislate people while putting minimal but sufficient safeguards (regulations) into the financial and other volatile systems.

    1. Oops!!! I meant Giv. Rick Scott (Florida) and not Gov. Scott Walker (Wisconsin).

  6. Can someone explain why NBC refused to run the planned Florida debate tonight (1-23)? This yet further evidence of how Obama and the media are going to use the airways to give America no other option than to re-elect a Marxis/ Socialist President who will not be satisfied until America is destroyed.

  7. My prediction.

They all stroke their egos, don't really give a shit about the country , spew a bunch of rhetoric, attack each other like children. Lie and lie.

Except Ron Paul. They basically won't let him speak much. The only one who actually has any conviction.

And to the low life ass-hole who always says "you just want him to win so he will legalize drugs" SCREW YOU ! It ain't about that and you know it.

  9. Gingrich again took the night. Paul was also strong. Romney looks like he's about to fall apart. Every time he challenged Newt, except for once, he came out on the losing end. Santorum is just starting to look pathetic. He refuses to look anyone in the eye when he is speaking about them where Newt and Romney do - Paul generally answers questions and doesn't much speak about the other candidates.

The most surprising thing of the night was the apparent flirting between Gingrich and Paul (something I'm sure the Romney camp noticed). It's an interesting dynamic and one that may get Paul more in the spotlight if Romney decides also to move toward Paul. It'll be interesting to watch.

I wish the moderators would stop a candidates answer when they start doing what Romney is doing with the 'Nut that's not the real question and let's talk about what the real question is and that's why....'. Romney did that a couple of times last night and I found it irritating.

    1. You have to be the only person in the USA who thinks Gingrich won last night's debate.

  10. My grades:

Mitt - A- One of his better debates so far. Not a grand slam but pretty good.

Santorum (two part grade here) B+ for the debate. Twitter says he did well, I knock him for his "let Newt be Newt, Mitt made money but that's irrelevant, enough with the attacks"... then goes on the attack. Other than that, his debate was pretty strong... pretty is the operative word, because that leads me to my next grade: F - for alienating the independent vote with the God-loving holy stuff. Santorum, you're smart, your dignified. But are you not smart enough to realize that you gotta get the middle vote (and even some on the left) and you're not going to do it if you promote a theocracy?

Newt C + Where was Newt Frasier... or Newt Tyson. He looked flat, period. His rocket fizzled.

Paul C - Usually this would be an F for his incessant rambling, but he gets a bump for some humor. Needs to stick to the points. Americans don't understand half sentences.

  12. I'm about to end all the comments right here. Dr. Paul has won all the debates, people that don't vote for him are a dumbass. Done.

    1. You know what's sad about you Ron Paul supporters? You blindly follow him no matter what. You are no different than liberals. If Paul got up on the stage and said, "the fed is great, I've been messing with you the whole time" you would still make a stupid comment like you did. Paul did NOT win any debate. He rambles. He is a lunatic. You are truly sad. Just like liberals love Obama no matter how poorly he is doing, you love your Paul blindly. This is dangerous for our country. I'm a Newt fan and I'll admit, he didn't have a great night. At least I'm man enough to admit it.
