Open Chat... All Day, Every Day! Express Your Views, Debate, and Challenge the Views of Others!

In order to keep up with the nature of free, spirited debate, I wanted to place the chat feature at the top of the homepage. This ensures people can come here and share their views on anything they wish and not have it be related to any specific discussion. Here, people can share ideas, links, and views "unmoderated" and an their own pace. To me, this makes The Elephant in the Room blog truly a place for debate.

  1. 0bama won the West Virginia Democrat primary. He defeated Keith Judd (or inmate 11593-051)59% - 41%. Judd defeated the incumbent President in nine counties.

That is pretty remarkable for a guy to get 41% of the vote state wide with no Super PAC, no campaign ads, running against a sitting President, and no campaign appearances due to his incarceration.

For a comparison, Inmate Judd got a larger percentage of votes than Ron Paul did in Virginia where only he and Romney were on the ballot. Judd got 41% while Ron Paul only got 40.5% (not much difference I know but Judd did get more).

Does this meaning anything or is it smooth sailing for 0bama?

    2. I don’t believe that W. Virginia means much of anything.

      W. Virginia is and will continue to be a primarily red state, and this will continue if for no other reason than the fact that coal is to W. Virginia as cars are (or, were) to Detroit Michigan. Times two. And well, most Democrats and all their pesky EPA/environmental/etc regulations make it much harder on their economy in that regard.

Needless to say, Democrats in WV also are a bit different from Democrats in other states. They represent more of a fringe aspect of the party, than a baseline.

Combined with Obama’s ~30% approval rating in that state, as well as Obama’s campaign making no effort at all to change that, it’s not a shock they made this political move.

At the end of the day, it’s simply 5 electoral votes he wasn’t going to get anyway.
